The Habitat for Humanity Mercer County Community Appreciation Dinner was held on the evening of May 6, 2013, in the Fellowship Hall of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church. This dinner was held to show appreciation for those individuals who had contributed time, money and/or materials to Habitat for Humanity Mercer County during 2011 and 2012.
The dinner was a potluck with meat donated by Dunn’s BBQ and Catering and Tom Brown’s High Mountain BBQ.
Following the delicious meal and fellowship around the tables, a short program was provided. Dr. Bob DeFoor expressed appreciation of all the individuals who served on the board in 2011 and 2012, all of the volunteers and donors, the Family Affair, the Patriots Quartet, and the Salvisa Baptist Church, who donate the Annual Dinner/Concert each year. He also recognized Janet Jones, as the first Habitat for Humanity Mercer County partner who has paid off her mortgage. Several of those in attendance were involved and/or on the board, including Doug Slagle, when Ms. Jones was chosen to be a partner more than 20 years ago,.
Bonnie Rumble gave special recognition and certificates of appreciation to: Mike Simms, who coordinated the Aluminum Can Recycling Program over the past several years, and the Construction Committee for 2011 and 2012, Wayne Mayes, Curtis Sherrow, and Bill Waggener. Bonnie Tanner recognized our partner in the State office of Habitat for Humanity – International, Mary Shearer.
We wish to thank all of Habitat for Humanity Mercer County Volunteers and Donors, 2011 and 2012, for their invaluable contributions to this important effort. We also sincerely hope that all would consider participating in 2013.
